I think it's great you can start with a clean slate and install what you want. The installation guide on their wiki was fairly simple to follow and I had it installed in no time the way I wanted it. But I would have much rather had that choice from the beginning then trying to be forced to use snaps. Snaps aside Ubuntu is still not not bad of a distro but I don't think it will ever be what it once was. Several weeks ago when I threw the pre-release of 22.04 on a VM to check it out I was deeply disappointed how much they are trying the force snaps. Somewhere around 12.04 - 14.04 I started getting serious about gaming on Linux and would frequently play World of Warcraft or The Sims on Linux.
